While Windows PCs have made great strides to close the gap, Apple’s Mac remains an industry default for creative media arts like video editing. Apple has, in fact, long been known for producing video editing software itself, with Final Cut Pro and iMovie both well-known in the industry. However, there’s plenty of fantastic third-party Mac video editors you can consider, too- and here’s a few of the best.
DaVinci Resolve
Davinci Resolve has been at the forefront of video post-production for a while now. Offering the capabilities of a full suite, rather than a single program, you can power up your video edits with color coding, audio remixing, and motion graphics. It’s even been used on movies like Jurassic World Dominion and Dune! Although it is actually a professional standard in the industry, it also is surprisingly user friendly for a consumer audience. It doesn’t have the easiest learning curve, so you will need to work with it to unlock its true potential. However, with a compellingly powerful free version available, there’s nothing you can’t do with this powerful piece of software.
Adobe Premiere Pro
If you regularly have to work cross-platform, then this could be the right video editing suite for you. With top-end and simple VR editing, color grading, speech-to-text, and multicam, it also integrates seamlessly with other Adobe products, like After Effects, to power up your experience further. There’s also a wealth of plug-ins available to enhance the experience. It is easy to use for both pros and amateurs- but again, will need a little bit of learning to truly unlock its potential. Many of its recent updates focus on making it easier to use for non-professionals, however. As with all Adobe software now, it does need a recurring subscription, however.
CyberLink PowerDirector
While you probably recognize this one from Windows, it’s also available for Mac! The shift is fairly recent, so we don’t blame you if you haven’t heard of it yet. It has a notably light rendering speed, and an incorporated audio designer that’s pretty impressive. You can even emulate studio-like color and enact seamless transitions. This product is best aimed at ‘serious amateurs’, who are looking for a slightly more accessible product than the others on our list.
Wondershare Filmora
Last, but certainly not least, there’s Wondershare Filmora. Easy-to-use and low-cost, it can still pack a powerful punch, and comes with a range of notable effects, animations, and transitions. It has a clean and simple interface, with speedy performance and a decent selection of built-in stock content. It is aimed at hobbyists and content creators rather than those with true film skill ambitions, but is still a product well worth considering.
And there you have it! These four powerful video editors are all compatible with Mac, and bring a fabulous range of power, effects, and diversity to the table. While some have the pro market in mind, while others are best kept for amateur use, they will all help you up your film editing game to the next level hassle free.
